New Zealand is a land of great contrasts. No other country in the world has such a great variety of scenery contained in such a small country. From golden beaches to sun-soaked islands to crystal clear rivers to stunning lakes to rugged mountains to fiords to wild West Coast black sand beaches - New Zealand has it all. The four million inhabitants are some of the most friendly people in the world, pretty laid back and lovers of nature and the outdoors. But that's not to say NZ is unsophisticated - you can get an espresso or cappucino even in the smallest towns throughout the country.
For food, it is best to sample what NZ does best - fresh fish, wild venison, succulent lamb, tender grass-fed beef and the local specialities like whitebait and huhu grubs.
And for the thrillseekers, NZ has it all: rafting, white-water kayaking, hang gliding, para penting, surfing, kite surfing, mountain climbing, skiing, game fishing, scuba diving, snorkelling, sand skiing, skateboarding, waterskiing, parachuting, sea kayaking and that famous Kiwi invention - bungy jumping!
